THE story appeared in the Courier on August 8, Issue 993. FOLLOWING a trial period, Mid Devon District Council (MDDC) has announced that it will be enforcing night-time charges at some of its car parks. Anyone parking at Crediton's Market Street or High Street (St Saviours) car parks, between the hours of 5pm and 8am, will be required to pay the night time charge of £1. The scheme, which has been approved by MDDC's cabinet, has been operating for a trial period (since February), warning motorists who did not display a valid ticket. Regular patrols of the car parks will now be undertaken and anyone whose vehicle does not display a valid ticket will be issued with a parking enforcement notice. Do you think people will pay the parking charges or will there be more on-street parking? Please let me know what you think? You can contact me at 102 High Street, Crediton or email: [email protected]">[email protected]. Readers are also invited to take part in the poll on the Courier website http://www.creditoncouriernewspaper.co.uk">www.creditoncouriernewspaper.co.uk.
What you told us ..........
I suspect it will cause more parking on the street. There are more cars being parked in the area and people walk off, they do not live in the road. Sometimes people leave their cars parked along Greenway for a weekend or even a week – and it's not people who live there. Nick Corbin, Crediton
If we have guests they have problems parking. The council seem to be squeezing every last penny. I live in Greenway and there are always loads of cars parked along the road. Adele Cox and Tania Hayman
It is creating a big parking problem on local roads. Residents will probably come home from a night out and find they can't park near their homes. It is ridiculous and is costing MDDC to send someone out. The amount of revenue is at the expense of the residents and the environment. Has the council worked out the cause and effect – what is it doing to the town? Justin Beament, Down St Mary
I drove past Market Street car park one evening and there was only one motorcycle in the car park. Crediton Resident
