SCORES of people have celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a cream tea at the Boniface Centre in Crediton.

Town councillors and council staff waited tables, serving tea, scones with jam and cream, sandwiches and more on Thursday, May 8.

Mayor of Crediton Guy Cochran opened proceedings with a toast. The Swing Three jazz trio played live, Michael Coleman exhibited his “The Way Things Was” display of vintage farm tools, equipment and household items, and guests had a chance to see Crediton Museum’s new slideshow about the town during the Second World War.

Residents of Hillbrow and Kenwyn care homes were given free cream teas at the event courtesy of local deli and bistro The Kitchen@25.
