A HAIR-CUTTING marathon at the University of Exeter organised by Crediton barber Lewis Snow has raised as much as £1,300 for charity Movember.
Eight barbers from four Exeter salons snipped more than 100 students’ hair in under five hours during the “Barber Bash” on Tuesday, November 5.
The event was held in partnership with the university’s student-led Movember committee “to raise awareness and funds for men’s mental health, suicide prevention, and the fight against prostate and testicular cancer”.
Nova Rose Barbers Founder Lewis Snow said: “What started as our annual Brave the Shave grew into a full-blown Barber Bash, uniting barbers and students for a powerful cause.
“This year, Nova Rose Barbers joined forces with MF Barbers, Lukas Barbers, and Prestige Barbers, turning the event into a celebration of community, collaboration, and men’s mental health awareness.
“The energy was unreal — the support from the public and university community made it one of the most inspiring events we’ve ever hosted.
“It’s a brilliant example of local businesses and students coming together to support important causes and promote positive conversations around men’s health.
“We’re now aiming to evolve this idea into a friendly annual charity barber competition next year, bringing even more local shops and barbers together to raise money and awareness for great causes.”
Nova Rose Barbers will also soon host a 24-hour barbering charity event from 9.30am on Saturday, November 22 until 9.30am on Sunday, November 23.
“We’re collecting second-hand toy donations at the shop up until Monday, December 1, ensuring they’re wrapped and delivered in time for Christmas, alongside funds raised to support the Children of Ukraine charity, who are personally delivering presents and essential aid to Ukrainian orphanages and those in the most affected areas,” said Mr Snow.
