CODS, the Crediton Operatic and Dramatic Society, is busy rehearsing for its Easter production, “The Wedding Singer”, which will be performed at Queen Elizabeth’s Lower School from April 8 to 13.

The Wedding Singer is a musical with music by Matthew Sklar, lyrics by Chad Beguelin, and a book by Beguelin and Tim Herlihy.

It is based on the 1998 film of the same name.

Set in the 1980s, Robbie Hart lives in his grandmother’s basement in New Jersey and sings in a wedding band.

His dreams of being a singer/songwriter are long gone, replaced now by a burning desire to find the right girl and settle down.

When his fiancee leaves him standing at the altar, he becomes a wedding planner’s worst nightmare, taking out his bitterness on stage until his eye and heart turn to a new friend, Julia, but she’s engaged to a wealthy Wall Street broker.

Does he find someone else, or does he try to get her back?

The box office opens tomorrow, Friday, February 23, via the website: www.codsonline.com .

A spokesperson said: “It’s a lovely, light, frothy show with loads of good songs, dancing and funny gags. A nice little escape back to the lighthearted moments of the 80s!”
