ON Saturday, July 5, Crediton-based choral director Tina Guthrie will be leading a choral workshop day focussing on Mozart’s Requiem.
This wonderful work is both dramatic and expressive and two of its most beautiful sections – the “Dies Irae” and “Lacrimosa” - will be familiar to many as they are frequently used in television and film.
Local singers may also remember that the Requiem was one of the works performed by the Crediton Festival Chorus under Tina’s direction in 2015.
The workshop is being organised by the Chagford Singers, for whom Tina was appointed musical director in September 2024.
It is part of their annual programme as they will continue to work on the Requiem in the autumn term, leading to a concert performance on November 15.
However, Tina is very keen that as many singers as possible should come and share an enjoyable and rewarding day and experience singing this beautiful music together.
During the workshop singers will have a chance to dip into most of the main choral sections of the piece and they will give an informal performance to friends and family at the end of the afternoon. Alongside this they will be exploring aspects of vocal technique such as breathing and tone production throughout the day.
Any singers with some choral experience are warmly invited to go along. The workshop will take place at the Jubilee Hall, Chagford (TQ13 8DP) on Saturday July 5. It will begin with Registration (and tea/coffee) at 9.30am and end at 5pm (following the short performance at 4pm).
Tickets cost £18 to include score hire (New Novello Choral Edition) and tea/coffee.
They can be obtained in advance from www.ticketsource.co.uk/chagfordsingers or they can be bought on the door.
