THROUGHOUT this month Tara Conabeare of Evans Newsagents in Crediton has been taking part in a charity Dog Walk Challenge with her dog Minx to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Tara and Minx aim to walk 62 miles in total, averaging about two miles per day and she has now reached the half-way mark with 30.4 miles to go.
She would be happy for other dog walkers to join her for some, or all of the miles.
Minx has been out of action for a week or so but will be back walking again soon and a friend’s dog, Scooby accompanied Tara on one walk in the absence of Minx and Sue Frost and her dog Duke have been going along too.
The charity is particularly close to Tara and her family. Tara was diagnosed with breast cancer in March and after treatment is now recovering, hence the reason for raising money for the charity. She has raised more than £3,000 so far.
Tara said: “There have been lots of acts of random kindness.
“One gentleman, Les Bradfield, came into the shop and donated a collection he’d made on his 90th birthday. He wanted to donate to Cancer Research UK and has also donated some to The British Heart Foundation.
“Crediton Football Club’s Second team raised £180 and Bow AAC raised more than £400.”
