IN true British spirit and despite the Amber weather warning we had a good crowd to support Spreyton’s annual Flower Show.
Tony Talbot, the Chairman of Spreyton Village Trust, introduced our President for the day, Alethea Kennerley and the Show was officially opened.
The committee were thrilled that the entries were up and as usual the standard was amazingly high.
Trophy winners were our local legend Cleave Collins for his Flowers, Vegetables and Wine and John Endacott won the residents vegetable cup.
The ladies cookery and preserves trophies were won by Angela Hawkins and Wendy Sincock won the RNIB Silver Salver for most points in the Handicraft section. Wendy also did a delightful Beatrix Potter flower arrangement.
The children’s cup was jointly won by Alba, Harmony, Alfie and Sam for their paintings of flowers, Greek pots and models of safari animals.
The Junior Cookery cup was won by Connie.
Special prize winners were Jack Brand for Carrots and Gladioli, Sam for a Greek pot, Connie for Cheese scones, Angela Hawkins for raspberry jam, Cleave Collins for Red Wine, Alethea Kennerley for a floral arrangement in a shell, Heather Pinwill for the best White African Marigold and Trisha Koenig for a faultless Chocolate Victoria Sandwich.
After much deliberating between raspberry jam, a chocolate victoria sandwich and a white gladioli spike the judges decided that the best exhibit in the whole show was the spectacular Gladioli spike and therefore the Rosebowl was presented to Jack Brand.
Thanks go to Tessa and Doug respectively for running the Tombola and Bottle stall, Elizabeth Williams and her team of helpers in the kitchen who provided a delicious afternoon tea, Douglas and Betty Endacott who were “on the door” and Hilary Elston who did the draw. Thanks must also go to our judges.
The day was rounded off by a Whist Drive.
A donation will be made to RNIB and the remaining funds are for the Village Trust.
The Show committee are so proud of our show which dates back to around 1958 and continues to be a popular event for the village each year.
