SHOBROOKE Friendly Club’s July outing this year was to Falmouth. This meant a slightly earlier start than usual for the 34 Club Members and friends from Crediton.
The weather that morning was a little cooler than it had been on the previous days, and slightly overcast. Thankfully there was no sign of rain, although the weather forecast the previous day had hinted at the possibility of a few showers.
As usual, the coach provider was Powell’s of Lapford, and the driver this time was Wesley.
A stop was made at Trethorne Leisure Park for coffee and refreshment. About three-quarters of an hour later we were on our way again, arriving in Falmouth at about midday, disembarking in the area of Falmouth known as The Moor.
The narrow streets of the town were packed with holidaymakers and sightseers, many obviously from aboard the cruise ship “Seabourn Quest” which was moored in the harbour.
Many enjoyed the traditional fish and chip lunch, whilst others ventured onto the water over to St Mawes, on the other side of the estuary, or browsed through the many shops.
Everyone was back at the coach ready to leave at 4.30pm arriving back in Crediton at about 7pm.
On August 15 at 2.15pm, at the Shobrooke Village Hall, the Club is holding an Entertainment Afternoon, with music by Ukulele Crazy and a story read by Christopher Lee.
This will be followed by Afternoon Tea. There will be a small charge of £3 per person, and anyone is invited to attend.
However, for catering purposes, it would be appreciated if anyone wishing to attend would either contact Eileen James on 01392 851218, or Margaret Gale on 01363 773282.
In September, the Club is proposing to run a short outing to Ilfracombe, followed by a fish and chip supper in Barnstaple. Anyone wishing to go on this trip should please contact either Eileen or Margaret on the above telephone numbers.
It is not possible to give a price for this trip at present as this depends on the numbers wishing to go. The more people going the cheaper the fare.
Please note that whatever the fare is, this will not include the cost of the fish and chip supper. Different people have different tastes!
