Cornwood First Eleven did not bat
Match abandoned
ONLY nine balls were bowled before rain ruined the afternoon for both teams!
Devon League Premier Second Eleven Division
Cornwood 216 for 8
Sandford 133 for 9
In a game reduced to 39 overs each, Sandford came away with a losing draw but failed to secure the bonus points.
There were two wickets each for Shaun Cockram and Simon Ashplant, but too many of the other bowlers went for over six an over.
In reply only Brian Leach (40) and Toby Lochead (38) handled the Cornwood bowling and it was left to the last pairing of Steve Morish and Shaun Cockram to bat out the final overs.
Match drawn.
North Devon League
Division One
Sandford First Eleven 373 for 4
Morebath First Eleven 278 for 9
The orders of the day were to win this game at all costs but what it did to morale in the club was possibly more damaging.
A massive 373 runs were amassed by Michael Guptill-Bunce (194 and Sandford's overseas player), James Gibson (101 and back home for the half-term week to visit family) and Richard Tucker (23 returning to New Zealand in the week).
The 218 runs put together by Guptill-Dunce and Gibson was a record second wicket partnership for Sandford in the North Devon League.
Those that probably needed time in the middle had to just look on and watch.
The outcome of the game was never in doubt, which is probably why a lot of the bowling was ineffectual.
However, Shaun Cockram worked hard to earn his three wickets.
It was a win that will help Sandford's quest to stay in the top division. Job done – move on – Victoria Park.
Sandford won by 95 runs.
Devon League 'A' Division
Tavistock First Eleven 111 all out
Sandford First Eleven 113 for 2
Sandford made light work of their lowly opponents and won this game with 40 overs to spare.
The wickets were shared by all five bowlers with the pick being Ryan Glass who took four for 29 as Tavistock were bowled out for 111.
Matt Theedom (78 not out) then shared an opening stand of 40 with Richard Foan who was dismissed for 0.
Ben Clement followed next ball but Michael Guptill-Bunce joined Matt and the two saw Sandford home in just over 14 overs of batting.
Sandford won by eight wickets.
Devon League Premier Second Eleven Division
Sandford 154 for 8
Exeter 155 for 3
Only six games into the season and Sandford are already 20 points away from safety.
Against Exeter only Shaun Hawkins (39 not out), Toby Lochead (31) and Mike Durand (29) made any contribution with the bat but no-one in the team has yet gone on to amass a big score.
It is interesting to note that only Bob Eames has scored a 50 for the Seconds this season and he has now declared himself unavailable for Saturday cricket.
Exeter then knocked off the runs with almost 20 overs to spare.
Only Brian Leach with two for 48 had any success.
Sandford lost by seven wickets.
North Devon League
Division One
Sandford First Eleven 267 all out
Victoria Park First Eleven 169 all out
A second consecutive win for Sandford has made life a little easier for them in this league.
There were strong batting performances from Michael Guptill-Bunce (79), Richard Foan (45) and Shaun Hawkins (42 not out) as a total of 267 was always going to be a challenging total.
The Victoria Park batsmen made a gallant effort in the chase but were always behind the asking rate.
The wickets were shared by Richard Foan, Brian Leach, Simon Ashplant and Russell Discombe.
Sandford won by 98 runs.
