HERE are some bullet points from the February meeting of Newton St Cyres Parish Council.

• The Boniface trail is one step nearer. Devon County Council have endorsed a purpose-built path close to the A377 from Crediton Station to Newton St Cyres, then “quiet lanes” will be used from there to Langford. At Cowley, the route will then follow Cowley Bridge Road via two new bridges built over the rivers and railway. Funding is not yet assured.

• Devon County Council have told us that they intend to buy a new bus shelter to replace the wooden one at Half Moon in the next financial year. We are in discussion with DCC about the bus stops at Langford.

• Parishioners expressed their frustration about the lack of school signage. Both they and we hope to take some action.

• Another Parishioner is compiling a petition asking for a traffic island at Tytheing Close.

• Mid Devon Council would like to remind us that batteries must be put in separate bags when recycling as they pose a fire risk.

• Mid Devon planning enforcement is actively monitoring the “holiday home” development at Half Moon. Currently, no one is living there.

• Through the P3 footpath scheme we are applying for the footbridge handrail at the start to the footpath along the Creedy to be repaired and for the installation of steps at the very steep start to the footpath at Sherwood.

• We are applying for grant funding from a community resilience fund to replace the three flood warning signs that were stolen in the recent flooding.

• Resilience issues and the wildflower survey were discussed.

• The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held in the Parish Hall on Thursday, March 5 at 7pm.
