SIXTEEN craftspeople from the local area helped Crediton branch of Save the Children raise more than £1,146 for the charity which celebrates 90 years this year.

The annual craft fair at Cheriton Bishop Village Hall was well attended with the organisers being "thrilled" with the result. Next year's craft fair will be on October 17 at Cheriton Bishop.

Greetings cards, jewellery, knitwear, pottery, wood work, soft furnishings, bags, and honey products were among the array of goods to buy.

One of the new craftspeople at Cheriton was Mrs Gina Hayden from Moretonhampstead. She had a craft shop in Bovey Tracey, and makes quite a bit of what she sells, such as the scarves, hats and decorated boxes.

Mrs Hayden can be found at Moretonhampstead Country Market once a fortnight, and at craft or textile fairs and rag markets around Devon.

Two of the youngest exhibitors were Laura Grist (18) and her sister Katie (11) of Crockernwell. Both are QECC students at Crediton, Laura in her final year.

Also a drummer in various bands, Laura began making jewellery as a hobby. Friends liked what she made, asked for more and so her enterprise grew.

A Christmas card sale with, so far, 11 different charities represented, is to be held by Crediton SCF branch in the Old Town Hall, Crediton, from 10am-1pm on Saturday, October 31.
