PLANS to turn a barn into five homes at a farm southeast of Cheriton Fitzpaine have been thrown out.

Exeter Chiefs captain Jack Yeandle had applied to convert the agricultural building at Wellcoombe Farm under “Class Q” of the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 2015, which allows agricultural buildings to be converted into homes without the need for a full planning application.

But Mid Devon District Council said the barn was not suitable for turning into houses, and the works proposed would have gone “beyond what could reasonably be considered as a conversion”.

The homes would have been arranged in a terrace style under one roof and would have ranged from 111 to 130 square metres in size. Each would have had two bedrooms and space for two cars.
