PLANNING permission has been granted to turn seven holiday-lets into homes near Cheriton Bishop.
Ann Barradine can now turn the cottages at Horselake Farm into two one-bedroom, one three-bedroom and four four-bedroom houses.
Approving her application, Mid Devon District Council said that while the site was in the countryside and normally new housing would not be allowed, the council is currently unable to show the government it has at least five years’ worth of land for new homes.
“Whilst the loss of holiday accommodation and associated economic benefits is regrettable... overall in the context of the council’s significant under delivery of housing, the benefits of the provision of seven additional dwellings in this location through re-use of existing buildings are considered to outweigh the adverse impacts arising,” said a spokesperson.
