A NEW venture for CODS, Crediton’s Operatic and Dramatic Society, was the staging of a pantomime, the very first pantomime the society has ever presented.

Staged at The Old Town Hall, “Snow White and the Six-and-a-Half Dwarves”, was written by CODS member Andy Kirby.

The pantomime was full of family fun with lighthearted banter and the highly-amusing “adult” joke, which no younger member would recognise.

The stage was lit up with cast members who could be seen really enjoying the acting and audience participation.

There were songs for all to sing along with and many laugh-out-loud moments.

The story followed the usual plot with a number of twists, the childless King and Queen, who lived in a beautiful castle in the forest being granted the Queen’s wish to have a child, which resulted in the birth of the beautiful Snow White.

Lost in the forest Snow White happened upon a dark, scary castle and a magic mirror.

Snow White escapes the evil Queen and finds seven six-and-a-half dwarves.

The evil Queen eventually finds Snow White, poisons an apple, tricks her into taking a bite, Snow White falling into a deep sleep until kissed by a Prince.

A wedding was the final result and then followed a big finale.

There were fantastic performances from the cast and the success of the performances, staged over four nights, looks to have secured future pantomime’s on CODS list of future engagements.

One youngster overheard in a seat in front of me agreed, telling his father “I’m really enjoying this”, and I have to agree - well done CODS, the cast and crew and Andy Kirby.
