OFTEN quirks of fate lead to good outcomes and that has certainly been the case for a quartet of local musicians.

Three had been playing together for some years and it was not until a comment was made that a keyboard player would complete the set-up that a fan thought of just the right person.

Guitarist and singer John Reed, married to Alison the electric bass player, and the drummer is Freddie Spencer.

Harry Crompton was the fan who happened to be around when it was said they needed a keyboard player. He knew Trevor Woodison who plays once-a-month at Buccaneer’s in East Street, Crediton, put him in contact with John with the result the three is once again a four, playing as “Loaded Dice”.

Their first gig together will be at Buccaneer’s on Friday, September 14. “Loaded Dice” are available for any sort of function or playing in pubs and clubs.

They play mainly late 60’s / early 70’s music, think “Small Faces” and more.

Trevor said: "John was part of that scene in London and is re-creating that.

"With the pub piano it blends quite nicely. I came here (Buccaneer’s) one evening when they were having a jam session and Graham, the landlord, asked if I would like to play here.

"So that began my being here at the beginning of every month with a mixture of Latino, jazz, that sort of thing. That was about four years ago.

"That is on Sunday afternoons and anyone can request anything . Harry had come to hear me and suggested me to John. Although we are only seven miles away from each other, we didn’t know each other."

John is a former “Tumblin’ Dice” member and “The Nice”.

Harry said the present band is "about the best covering band I have heard and I have heard about 30."

So if you want an interesting evening of music, go along to Buccaneer’s and check out this new band.
