I HAVE long been impressed with Crediton High Street. It has a variety of independent shops, the undoubted community spirit and the pride shown, by way of the delightful hanging baskets along its length for example. It's even more attractive now, adorned with colourful banners, and at Christmas time, with the many festive trees and lights. But, and I'm afraid there is a but, where are the trees? Barely a leaf between St Lawrence Green and the War Memorial. How much more attractive our High Street would look with the softness of foliage offsetting its hard surfaces. And it wouldn't take much. Just four trees, two either side by the central bus stops would do it. OK we would lose four car parking spots but surely the benefit outweighs this small sacrifice. It would be interesting to know whether other readers share my view and whether the council could be persuaded to consider this major benefit to our town centre? Maybe I have missed something, maybe this has been considered and rejected in the past? Perhaps if so, it is time to raise the subject once again - I'm sure Mary Portas would agree?
