EIGHT local primary schools took part in this year's tag rugby tournament at Lord's Meadow playing fields, Crediton.

The event, organised by Exeter Rugby Community Chiefs Keith Fleming and Tony Walker, was sponsored by South West Communications and Tony Pryce Sports.

A total of 122 primary school children took part and a team of sports leaders from Queen Elizabeth Community College, Crediton volunteered to referee the matches.

Three teams from Chertion Fitzpaine, two from Sandford and Landscore and teams from Cheriton Bishop, Yeoford, Tedburn St Mary, Bramford Speke and Newton St Cyres took part in the tournament.

In the final Newton St Cyres beat Brampford Speke 5 – 3 and Sandford beat Yeoford 9-1 to take third place.

Paul Harris of Crediton Rugby Football Club presented medals to the top three teams and all the children taking part were given a gift voucher.
