I WAS pleased to read Sandra Collier's letter in last week's “Courier” about Israel's bombing of Al Ahli hospital in Gaza.
She says that the Israeli authorities are continually allowed to do what they like without accountability. and asks the question 'What can you do?' One thing we can do is to lobby our local MP to show that we care about this situation. The Conservative party are strong supporters of Israel, apart from issuing occasional appeals for a ceasefire, which fall on deaf ears.
Sir Mel Stride follows the party line in this respect. Israel has always been impervious to general appeals or requests from outside. However they might respond if the UK and other countries were to stop sending armaments, and boycotted goods produced in their illegal settlements in the West Bank.
Change came about in South Africa following a concerted campaign of economic, cultural and sporting boycotts. If we are really serious about stopping the genocide, we need to do the same with Israel. Gerald Conyngham
