I WAS enjoying a family barbecue on the evening of Saturday, August 5, when a large bird caught my eye high up in a tree some way to the rear of our garden (probably in the grounds of Penton House).
We all had a good look at him through the binoculars and spent some time trying to identify him from our bird book. It was quite a tricky task as he spent most of the time with his head under his wing!
We did however, manage to get a few good glimpses of him and came to the conclusion that he is a juvenile cormorant...not a normal visitor to Crediton!
We assume he must have lost his way somehow and ended up on his own here in Mid Devon.
I managed to get a few photos of him (without his head under his wing!) and thought “Courier” readers might be interested to see him in your wildlife section!
