I HAVE just read the January 2023 Town Council Newsletter which as always contains some items of interest.

The Town Council precept for the year 2023 to 2024 has yet to be decided but as an example a 15 per cent increase has been described as an increase of only 41 pence a week.

I wonder if I am the only one to feel that my intelligence is being insulted by this correlation between the two.

The simple fact of the matter is that if all our bills, large and small, were increased by 15 per cent and justified by the same thinking all of us would be paying out a greater percentage of our income than previously unless of course we had received a 15 per cent increase in our net income which seems rather unlikely.

The past history of precept increases implemented by this council is not at all impressive.

The newsletter goes on to make mention of what the council understands to be important to the council tax payers.

Amongst those items mention is made of public toilets. When are we likely to see some progress on this item?
