HARVEST was celebrated at a service at the Church of St Matthew, Coldridge, on Saturday, September 16.

The service, which was well-attended, was conducted by the Rev Lindsey Starrs of the North Creedy Benefice.

She spoke about the Biblical and historical significance of harvest and also talked about how many people in other parts of the world are currently suffering without any food, in many areas due to floods and weather as well as man’s influence. She encouraged those who are able, to support charities which help those less fortunate.

The service also included prayers and Bible readings, as well as the reading of the poem "Harvest Wrappings" by Beryl Chatfield.

During the service donations of harvest, garden produce and food items were accepted for the Amber Foundation at Chawleigh.

The Amber Foundation offers young people a fresh start in life and is highly-regarded.

After the service, a bring-and-share supper was enjoyed by those who attended.
