THERE are hopes that Charlotte Street in Crediton, on the A377, will reopen soon.

The street was closed between East Street and Exeter Road following a vehicle collision with a telegraph pole at about 2.30am this morning, Saturday, October 10.

The road has been closed in both directions and power cables came down.

Devon Highways have been at the scene and made the scene safe following the removal of the vehicle which caused the damage.

The telegraph pole has now been replaced and Western Power are now at the scene (2pm) to reconnect the many wires to the pole.

It is hoped that the road will reopen when this work has been completed.

Traffic is advised to use Wellparks Hill if coming from the Exeter direction.

Traffic coming down through the town can use the one-way East Street and Mill Street and can then re-join Exeter Road past the road closure or go via Wellparks Hill.

Union road has had long queues of traffic in it and is only suitable for cars.

Stagecoach buses are not currently serving the town centre due to the incident.

Further updates as we have them.
