MOLE Avon Country Stores has been granted planning permission for three vehicle jet wash bays at its Crediton branch.

They will be created on land next to the southern side of the main building off Joseph Locke Way.

Customers will be able to use the jet wash units to clean their cars from 7.30am to 7.30pm seven days a week.

Each of the bays will have an overhead boom arm for the hoses, and will be graded with water running into a central catchment gully. There will be galvanised security fencing around the perimeter.

Approving the application, Mid Devon District Council said the installation of the vehicle wash bays “is considered acceptable as a matter of principle”.

“By virtue of the nature of the development it is not considered to negatively impact the vitality of existing uses, and is suitably scaled for the existing site,” the local authority continued.

“The physical appearance of the development is in keeping with the surrounding area and is not considered to harm the character of the area or impact neighbourhood amenity.

“The wash bays and their associated paraphernalia are modest in scale.

“There are also no significant concerns in terms of ecological impacts or flood risk amounting from the development.

“If full, any members of the public waiting to use the wash bays would be able to park and wait within the Mole Avon car park. As such, there are no concerns regarding parking provision.”

Crediton Town Council did not object to the plans, nor did any members of the public.

Mole Avon has three years to begin installing the bays.
