According to a "Whistleblower" the town could be bombarded with countless planning applications for more housing which could see our town almost double in size!
"The site is going to be from the fields near Crediton Railway Station all the way up around Queen Elizabeth’s lower school site and down behind the Landscore School area.
The "Whistleblower" added: "I believe consultation has been undertaken with Mid Devon District Council (MDDC), but they are keeping quiet.
"I think the people of Crediton have a right to know what is being considered."
If this information is correct there could be huge consequences for the people of Crediton and the surrounding area.
There do not appear to be any details for improving our infrastructure.
There is much concern over the potential of a huge increase in traffic and congestion, bringing with it all the health risks, particularly to the elderly and the young, of increased pollution and poor air quality to areas that are already suffering.
Another concern is the strain that would be put on our schools and doctors surgeries.
Work has already begun on 185 homes at Wellparks and an application for 49 homes at Cromwells Meadow has been approved by MDDC.
Other plans for new housing include 60 at Threshers, 120 at Chapel Downs, 75 at Higher Road, and 320 at Pedlarspool (Creedy Bridge). Another is for Forches Cross Playing Fields.
Other plans for housing are expected to be submitted.
What do you think of the possibility of the number of houses in Crediton almost doubling with no apparent plans for improving the infrastructure or the town’s amenities?

What you told us ...
Absolutely not! We don’t need any more houses, the town is big enough and busy enough already. There are so many empty shops we need to do something about that first - we really need a shop that sells stationery.

If they build that many houses it will bring chaos and trouble. What about the sewers, and the schools and doctors? We can’t cope now. If people don’t want all these houses then they should speak out. It won’t be Crediton people who move into these houses, most people won’t be able to afford them. What is Mid Devon District Council thinking? It’s disgusting!
Linda Savage Jones, Crediton
We have sufficient houses in Crediton already. Really the only ones that are a good idea are the ones at Wellparks with easy access to Exeter. Crediton is very hilly and it is expensive for builders so they can’t afford to build very many affordable homes. There are far too many houses planned for Crediton and we don’t have the infrastructure. I had heard that Mid Devon had already reached their quota but I’m not sure if that’s true.
