AN EVENT was held at the Cider Works in Crediton on Saturday, May 19 to celebrate the ancient tale of Franklin’s Night - A Celebration of Devon Cider.
The Brown Paper Bag Mummers retold the story of Franklin, a farmer who lived near Crediton and had a curse placed upon him when he upset the devil.
The result of the curse caused cold weather in May to kill the apple blossom which affected the cider harvest, and left the poor farmers without their favourite drink.
Guests at the free event were entertained with live music from “The Dilly Boys.” A barbecue was available and there were tours of the Cider Works as well lots of Devon Cider to drink.
Sandford Orchards hope that it will become an annual event.
