A HARVEST Festival service, for everyone in the village, was held in St Mary’s Church, Morchard Bishop on Sunday, September 10 at 6pm, which was conducted by the Rev Lindsey Starrs.

During the service there was an interesting talk by John, Director of Exeter Samaritans. He spoke of its origins and continuing work, talking to people with problems with the help of volunteers.

The collection in the church in aid of The Samaritans amounted to £215.77.

After the service, most of the congregation walked across the road to the Memorial Hall for a “Bring and Share” supper which, as usual, resulted in an excellent variety of food.

The supper was followed by an auction of fruit, vegetables and produce which had been used to decorate the Church.

This was conducted by the Rev Lindsey Starrs with much humour and raised the sum of £165. In view of the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma, it was agreed that this should be donated to the Caribbean disaster fund.
