IT is hard to miss the colour and creativity that now adorns an item of street furniture on Parliament Street.
On 22 July, a group of young people from Crediton were given a graffiti masterclass by Nick Olas, of Olas Art, and turned what was a dull National Grid cabinet, continuously vandalised, into a piece of art.

Cath Kelly of Crediton Youth Service, said: “As part of Crediton Youth Service’s summer programme, a one-off graffiti art day was planned with this transformation in mind and after months of tracking down the right person, the go ahead was given by National Grid.
“The young people fully immersed themselves in the session and were proud of their creation.
“Thank you to Olas Art for teaming up with us, National Grid for granting permission and to everyone who shared positive comments.

“It was a fantastic project we hope to replicate in other parts of the town!”
Crediton Youth Service also teamed up with Skern Lodge Activity Centre for an unforgettable day of adventure and discovery along the rugged North Devon coastline.
Cath said: “On July 24, the group explored the dramatic cliffs and hidden coves of Hartland, learning about the area's unique geology, wildlife, and maritime history.
“Young people had the chance to push their boundaries, build confidence, and connect with nature, the perfect mix of exploration, education, and excitement.

“Throughout the summer, young people could dive into the world of fantasy with Dungeons and Dragons in The Hub and, for those feeling artistic, t-shirt painting offered a chance to get creative.
“Meanwhile, Newcombes Meadow was host to sumo wrestling, face painting, and giant board games!
“The activities gave young people a safe and exciting space to express themselves, try new things, and most importantly have fun!”
