CREDITON’S Tesco store at Wellparks recently joined forces with local charity group, The Amber Foundation, to help the efforts being made to clear up litter in the town.
A team of around a dozen people spent the day clearing the grassland to the side of the store and the small copses on it.
The stores personnel manager, Dan Pearce, led the two teams and was delighted with the work done saying, "it’s always great to help out around the town and even better when the opportunity is there to work with a fantastic organisation such as The Amber Foundation."
Colin Haggar, centre manager at Amber, was very happy for the group to be involved and said: "The Amber Foundation is always open to getting out in the local community and helping out wherever we can.
"If anyone has a project that they think we could help with or provide some extra pairs of hands for, they are always welcome to email me on: [email protected] and we’ll see what we can do".
The group cleared all manner of rubbish away from the area including many bottles and cans, plastic and even an old car tyre.
Dan added: "Another advantage of us being involved is that we sent the litter that we retrieved back through our normal waste channels which ensures that none of it will go to landfill, instead being recycled to generate electricity."
The Amber Foundation were involved after a request from the stores Community Champion, Andrew Drayton. He said: "We have done some work with the group on previous occasions and I know that they are very keen to be involved wherever they can in the local community, as we are, so it was brilliant that we were able to work together on this."
