South West Peninsular League Division East

Galmpton Gents 1

CREDITON were beaten by the odd goal at Lords Meadow by a strong Galmpton side that looked well capable of a top three finish on this performance.

Although Crediton huffed and puffed they never really looked like scoring and when the winning goal came on 59 minutes, it always looked like ending the contest.

In the first half Crediton looked well organised and Dan Whelan and Scott Telford were particularly impressive at the back.

Galmpton always looked the more likely to create a chance as their free flowing passing game made Crediton look off the pace at times.

The score at half-time remained goalless, the best chance falling to Crediton striker Richard Blake, whose run of profligacy in front of goal continued as the ball ballooned over into the trees.

The winning goal came on 59 minutes after a neat interchange by the men in green. After a neat move the ball fell to Reece Moseley on the edge of the area and his neat turn and shot found the top right hand corner of the Crediton net with Fred Tonkin clutching thin air.

It was a goal worthy of settling any encounter and although Crediton tried hard, they could not force the visiting keeper into one save throughout the 90 minutes.

The best opportunity of the evening unfortunately fell to Blake, who ran on to Scott Boardman's long ball but only succeeded in blazing over the bar with the goal gaping.

This about summed it up for Crediton who, despite playing some good football, could not press home their advantage.

Crediton team: Tonkin, Whelan, Lee, D Strong, Telford, Copp, Toms, Trenaman, Greenslade, Blake, Baker. Subs: Broome, Boardman, Lee J.
