HOPES for a second defibrillator at Yeoford have been given a push by Crediton and District Lions Club which gave £100 to Yeoford Hearty Hearts.

The cheque was accepted by Sarah Parkinson, landlady, outside The Duck at Yeoford. James and Sarah Parkinson, owners of The Duck, have given permission for the machine to go on the outside of the building.

Handing over the cheque, Lion Peter Bryan, President of Crediton and District Lions Club, said: “This is about saving lives, we have a history of donating to defibrillators.

“More than 20 years ago we donated one to the local ambulance at Crediton and the first one carried on the Crediton fire engines was paid for by the Lions.

“But fundraising has been so different this year so anything we give is relatively small but we still try to help where we can.”

Dave May explained that the idea came because of Allan Veal raising money at Yeoford Market, not held since the spring, totalling £112.70. His partner, Vic Norton, had added £113.50 through the Yeoford Life Drawing Group.

Dave said that earlier this year there were plans for events centred around the pub and Community Hall, but they did not happen due to Covid.

“We are now seeking help from local organisations and individuals. So far we are getting near to £1,000 but need another £500 at least to buy, install and maintain a machine.

“We know that Crediton Hamlets Parish Council has said it would help financially and we have received pledges, some of which are dependent on events to be held,” said Dave.

Anyone wishing to donate can do so through the pub.
