TRAFFIC stopped, the maroon went off, heads were bowed in solemn remembrance for two minutes on Friday morning (November 11) at Crediton Town and Hamlets War Memorial on Union Road, writes Sue Read.

The short service was conducted by the Rev Canon Michael Hall. Representatives of Crediton Town Council, Crediton Hamlets Parish Council, Mid Devon District Council and many of the various Forces with those who had served or were representing members of their family had joined the crowd. At the end the National Anthem was sung.

Most poignant was the single red rose that had already been laid at the War Memorial. Cllr Bob Deed, Leader of Mid Devon District Council thanked everyone for being there. He laid a wreath on behalf of the district council.

Earlier that morning he had put another wreath on the Poppy Train at Tiverton Parkway station. Handmade wreaths were laid by children from Pippins Pre-School and Nursery, Sunflower Day Nursery and Hayward’s School.
