A DRIVER from Crediton has admitted being involved in a crash which caused the death of a 22-year-old motorcyclist in an accident near Crediton.
Martin Rogers was driving at speed on the A377 in close proximity to another car which collided with and killed Danielek Adametz near Hookway Cross on the afternoon of May 7, 2020.
Rogers, aged 34, of Threshers Terrace, Crediton, admitted dangerous driving after the prosecution agreed not to proceed with a more serious charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
The other driver, Ashley Mace, aged 29, of Hillyfield Road, Exeter, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at an earlier hearing.
Judge David Evans adjourned the sentences of both men to Friday, January 13, 2023, and ordered a probation pre-sentence report for Rogers, which will include possible alternatives to an immediate sentence.
He told them: “You have now both pleaded guilty to offences, which means there does not need to be a trial.
"You need to be sentenced for these offences but probation have to prepare a report before that takes place."
Mr Rowan Jenkins, prosecuting, said the pleas were entered on the basis that the two cars were "moving together" rather than racing. He said there was a fault on the ABS braking system on Mace’s car but he may have believed it had been mended.
Miss Hollie Gilbery, for Mace, said he was aware of the likely sentence.
Mr Adrian Chaplin, for Rogers, said a report would be helpful to the sentencing judge.
Members of Mr Adametz’s family will be present at the sentencing hearing next month.
They paid tribute to him and issued photos through the police after the accident two years ago.
Their statement said: “Our hearts are broken into millions of pieces. Our Little Brother and Son left us too quickly.
“Daniel, we all miss you so much and we wish we could hug you again and hold your hand. We all wished it was just a bad dream. Heaven has gained an Angel.
“Danielek, on May 20 you were about to celebrate your 23rd birthday and you were very happy to move into a new home this year, the house you saved a lot for carefully. You enjoyed sport, especially loved playing football.
“Your heart was made of gold, always so caring, friendly and willing to help, our angel. Your whole life was ahead of you. Our Son and Brother, we will always miss you and will always love you with all our Hearts. Rest in peace.”
