THE Army Cadet Force in Crediton will be playing a role in Remembrance in Crediton on Sunday, November 9 - and young cadets have already created a fitting Remembrance display outside the Crediton Army Cadet Centre in Charlotte Street.
The display includes many poppies, a Tommy model, the names of all the cadets and has been praised by those who pass by on the A377.
Staff Sgt Tina Vaughan-Atkins said: “This year we have tasked our junior cadets with creating our war memorial. They put a lot of creativity and dedication into this.
“I’m very proud of what they have produced this year.”
Tina added: “Currently we have 33 cadets with eight more joining soon.
“We have three seniors who are undertaking their instructors course at the moment and some have completed national band qualifications in bugle, flute and drum.
“We are pleased that we will have drummers with us in our remembrance parade march.”
Crediton Army Cadets parade every Monday and Thursday from 7pm to 9pm.
Tina added: “From your first day as a cadet, your life will change. You’ll encounter new challenges and experiences, you’ll learn to understand yourself better and those around you, you’ll become an active and valued member of your community, and earn nationally recognised qualifications.
“Throughout your journey, you’ll work through the Army Cadet Syllabus, developing skills in: Leadership and Teamwork; First Aid; Drill and Turnout; Navigation and Expeditions; Community Engagement; Sports; Music; Shooting and Fieldcraft.
“Each stage of the syllabus builds your confidence, practical skills, and self-discipline, and you’ll earn star levels to celebrate your achievements.”
Cadets also offers Adventurous Training (AT) and expeditionary activities are an integral part of the Army Cadets' experience.
Tina said: “These activities influence our cadets' and Adult Volunteers' personal development and inspire them to achieve their full potential.”
