THE Crediton and District Probus Club met on Tuesday, February 1, at the Downes Crediton Golf Club and, for the first time in nearly two years, members and guests were able to invite their ladies to join them.
Brian Healey, the President, offered a warm welcome to the members and to all of the guests and expressed a wish that the meeting would represent a careful start to a renewal of the Club’s regular activities.
After Grace was said by Keith Barker all sat to enjoy a colourful and tasty meal prepared and served by the Golf Club’s caterers.
The Loyal Toast to Her Majesty was supported with enthusiasm by all.
The raffle prize of a basket of fruit was won by Mrs Pauline Staite and the bottle of port was won by Keith Beetlestone.
John Tucker was introduced by the President and he then delivered a fascinating talk entitled “City to sea”.
The talk guided us all from the Quay at Exeter to Dawlish Warren and was beautifully illustrated with photographs that John had taken during his various walks beside the river and canal.
Those listeners who had already followed the route taken were encouraged to re-tread the path and re-view what they had seen with the benefit of the snippets of history etc that John had included in his talk.
Ken Down thanked the speaker on behalf of the members and the meeting closed with a toast to all absent members and a hope that they would be able to attend the next meeting.
