THE road was closed for three hours at the Jockey Hill roundabout/Blagdon junction in Crediton during the morning of Sunday, January 13, while firefighters dealt with a chimney fire in one of the Jockey Hill cottages.

A Crediton fire crew attended at 8.10am and a fire commander assisted by closing the road with his vehicle to help protect the firefighters from traffic.

Ladders and safety at height equipment as well as internal chimney firefighting equipment and hose reels were used to help put out the fire.

Due to difficulties gaining access to the chimney, some internal cuts through brickwork had to be made to gain access.

The road re-opened at about 11am and a firefighter returned to the property later that day to check that the fire was out.
