OUTSIDE areas at Hayward’s Primary School in Crediton are looking bright and cheerful thanks to pupils from the school who took part in a competition for the best planted container of flowers.
The children not only planted the containers with small plants but have had to care for them, watering them each day, at the school.
Former town mayor Mrs Gillian Ponsford and her husband, Norman, were called upon to judge the many entrants and the winners they selected who had the best planters were Roxie Grey, Libby White, Reece James and Chloe Gale.
Each of the winners received a certificate and packet of seeds as prizes.
The containers varied from old Wellington boots to baskets, tins and many more.
Mrs Ponsford said: “It was very difficult to judge them. They were all so different, some with a single bloom and some with many.
“The standard was very good, however, and I am pleased that the children are learning about gardening in this way.”
