DESPITE a very dry, windy spring, Cheriton Fitzpaine Garden Club once more produced a magnificent display of flowers and shrubs for its spring exhibition and show.

A record number of flower arrangements lined the walls, and everyone admired the luscious-looking cakes, loaves, flapjacks and preserves, a very competitive-judged class.

Prior to the show, a workshop for children had been held in the Methodist Hall, and the judge was amazed at the high standard for young children.

As always, the tearoom was packed with hungry and thirsty visitors - Mike and Lynette Porter and team were kept busy all afternoon.

The most points awarded in Floral Art went to Dee Marshall, and the Most Outstanding Floral Art Arrangement was entered by Ann Nixon.

The Open Photography prize went to James Mason, and the Children's to Bethany Mackie, who also won the Brownies section.

Her sister, Lily-Ann Mackie won the Most Outstanding Children's Exhibit.

Rainbow Mary Withers won the best Floral Arrangement in her Class.

The Best Cake was made by Charlotte Jakins, the Best Flapjack by Vanessa Edwards. Mary Burchmore made the Best Loaf and Ruth Buckley the Best Jam and Chutney.

This show does not happen without a stalwart and dedicated team of volunteers.

The newly-appointed show secretaries Charlotte Jakins and Erica Mason worked hard to make sure that everything ran smoothly.

Our next show, the summer one, will be on Saturday, August 16, at 2.30pm.
