THE Crediton Singers will present a charity concert at the Elephant on the Green, 14 Lawrence Green, Crediton, from 5pm on Sunday, September 17.

"We are really excited about our new session, welcoming new singers and learning new music," says Diane Cummings of the Crediton Singers.

"Unlike many choirs we continue to meet over the Summer and, despite the heat, we've been able to prepare for our forthcoming charity concert this Sunday.

"It's a relatively informal concert where we shall be raising money for Prostate Cancer Research and it features some very talented local musicians including our Musical Director Tim Matthews, pianist Octavia Lee and singer-songwriter Thea Smith. Admission is free."

The Crediton Singers follow very much the ideas that encouraged the formation of the Music Maker's locally; to allow and encourage local musicians, singers and instrumentalists to get involved.

Diane added: "We don't hold auditions and we believe that if you sing in the bath or in your car to work you can sing with us.

"Normally, after a few short weeks, a singer's confidence grows and they really enjoy being with us.

"I think the sense of community, friendship and helping raise money for charity is a great thing and it's fantastic when we're able to present a concert.

"On Sunday we're doing a lot of new songs, some of our popular older ones and also hearing music from younger musicians.

"So it's a great opportunity for everyone involved and we hope that local people will come along to support this event."
