REGARDING the election for a new Police and Crime Commissioner, I feel this must be the first election to a post in public office where the electors have been unable to access information about the candidates to enable a vote to be cast unless they had access to the internet.

I made a series of telephone calls, culminating in using an 0800 number and finally received details about all the candidates, what they stand for and what they propose to do.

It should be noted that a sizeable percentage of those entitled to vote in elections do not have access to a computer and is therefore at a disadvantage.

It is wrong of those wishing to seek public office to expect the voters to do all the work to find out who to vote for, will this be the way forward for future elections?

Elections are expensive and have an effect on the public purse but in a democracy they are essential.

The ability of all to access information easily is vitally important and in some cases without the relevant information available a voter may abstain from voting.

So candidates whether you are Independent or allied to a political party, make sure information about you, and what you stand for/propose, is readily available to all. Do not take the electors for granted.
