THE August meeting of the Crediton branch of the University of the Third Age (U3A) included a talk given by Kirsty Peake entitled “From wolf to dog”. Kirsty is a qualified animal behaviourist with many years of experience.

She has observed wolves in the wild and explained that, as they are naturally shy animals, the animals seen in wildlife parks have been hand-reared and so become used to people - otherwise you wouldn’t see any animals during your visit.

She explained that as man developed from hunter-gatherers to farmers, a symbiotic relationship was formed whereby both man and wolves had a mutually beneficial relationship.
