ANTHONY Powell visited Hillbrow Residential Care Home recently to entertain the residents with a Therapeutic Music Session, which was greatly enjoyed by everyone.

He started with head, shoulders, knees and hips, (not toes, as elderly folk usually can’t reach them), and says this is good, as if they can stand up on their own they can gain even more from this activity, as can the ones who do it from their chairs.

After this Anthony played a variety of tunes on his keyboard and asked the residents to answer questions, such as what musical was that tune from? and who starred in that film? This brought back memories and lively discussions.

He then played a number of Scottish tunes as it was Burns’ Night the next day. He ended with head, shoulders knees and hips again, with two of the carers so they could watch and see the actions.

Anthony is very friendly with Hillbrow resident, 98 year-old Les Powell (no relation) and Les writes some lovely poems, which Anthony brings to life with his music, he has recently worked on Sunset, and Music to my Ears.

Sadly Les wasn’t well enough to attend the afternoon but Anthony did visit him in his room to hear Les’s recent poems.

All the residents agreed it was a most entertaining afternoon. Anthony is always happy to visit the Crediton area, to entertain. His telephone number is 01626 775328.
