HAVE you ever lost an important document down the back of your desk? Or maybe something valuable has slipped behind a bookcase and it was really difficult to retrieve?

If so, then you may have the perfect solution thanks to the invention of a Crediton man.

Martin Green (45), has invented "The Gap Trap", which stops objects falling behind difficult to move pieces of furniture.

He explained: "I was at a friend's house in their office and some paperwork slipped down the back of one of their desks.

"It was not easy to retrieve and there began the thought process. I had to find a solution which would stop it happening again.

"I came up with 'The Gap Trap', which I think has a range of uses to stop things falling behind sideboards, filing cabinets and even kitchen units."

Martin's invention, which is available for licensing, has reached prototype stage and is available in three different sizes suitable for most domestic gap sizes ranging from five millimetres up to 50mm.

Made of plastic/PVC it is fitted to the back of a cabinet or desk and prevents objects falling down behind them.

It can come in a variety of colours to suit surfaces but is flexible enough to hold electrical cables neatly in position.

It is easy to fit, of a strong and durable construction and can come in various lengths.

Martin added: "I could see 'The Gap Trap' being used in a commercial environment and in the home and while of simple design, it has taken a long time to get to this stage and I think it will be of great benefit to many people in the future."

Martin, who has previously studied "Principles of Design", says he has always been interested in finding practical solutions.

He would now like to hear what people think of his invention and from those who may be interested in licensing or placing orders for "The Gap Trap".
