CREDITON Railway Station did not make the final five in the World Cup of Stations 2026 - but it was a real triumph to make the final 20 standout selected stations following more than 150 nominations from across Britain.
Bringing the rail industry together to celebrate “The stations creating connections that matter”, this year’s competition gave the public the chance to choose their Station of the Year.
The competition recognises the work of station teams, volunteers and community partners in connecting people and places.
Crediton Station was nominated for connecting through music and belonging, namely through The Turning Tides Project.
The nomination details say: “Crediton’s former station buildings now host a popular community café and an inclusive music and arts home. People with learning disabilities and autism travel from across Devon to make music, build friendships and enjoy a space shaped around their needs.”
The Turning Tides Project said: “Our ‘World Cup of Stations’ posts reached over 35,000+ people, we were on BBC radio and across multiple newspapers too.
“There are 2,643 actively maintained Train Stations across the UK, and though we did not make it to the final 5, we did make it to the final 20!
“A huge achievement for a small town tucked away in Devon. So THANK YOU for voting for Crediton Train Station; recognising and engaging with what we do.
“Though we did not win, we are still here working to make equal access a reality for everyone. If this many people want to be a part of recognising Crediton Station in this competition… surely this many people or more want to be a part of achieving a more equal and accessible world.
“So stay a while, share what we do, chat with us, and (maybe more importantly?) pop in for a cup of tea. Thank you for being a community we are proud to be a part of.”
