DEVON and Somerset Fire and Rescue crews from Bovey Tracey, Danes Castle (Exeter), Exmouth, Honiton, Ottery St Mary, Middlemoor and Clyst St George fought a grass fire in Exwick, Exeter on Friday, August 7.

Fire control sent one fire engine just after 4pm and due to the number of 999 calls, a further pump was sent for assistance.

On arrival crews confirmed this was a large area of grassland that was on fire and spreading towards domestic properties.

Crews requested further assistance and the total was raised to eight fire engines.

Several specialist appliances and officers also attended.

Firefighters remained at the scene until just before 9pm.
