IN the best party tradition, everyone at Crediton’s senior citizens “do” on Saturday went home with a “goody bag”.

Eighty pensioners from the town and villages around went to the lunch at the Boniface Centre provided by both of Crediton’s Rotary Clubs - the Rotary Club of Crediton and the Rotary Club of Crediton Boniface.

Chief cook for the meal was Carole Webb, a former Crediton president. The party was organised by Richard Carey with Carole.

Other lady Rotarians, Rotary wives and friends of Rotary helped prepare, serve and clear the meal and act as attendants through the afternoon.

Transport was provided by the Rotarians and 15 Rotarians were at the Boniface Centre from 8am setting out tables and getting ready for the meal.

Altogether 10 bottles of sherry were used, six turkey crowns cooked and eaten plus vegetables, mince pies, trifle, Christmas pudding and clotted cream.

Alan Tonkin was the bingo caller for the 24th year, wearing his Crediton RFC centenary blazer, and Crediton Town Band played seasonal songs after the lunch.

A bottle of port was given to Mr Bert Lee who used to run A E Lee and Sons on Crediton High Street for being the oldest man at 96 at the party.

One year older, Mrs Irene Spencer from Sandford received a poinsettia plant.

A bouquet of flowers was presented to Carole Webb by Paul Evans, Crediton Rotary president.
