A LOCAL business is sponsoring a Crediton young woman who is a winger for Exeter City Ladies FC.

Sophie Simpson, who works at Crediton's Morrisons store, is being sponsored for the remainder of the season by G's Valets of Exeter Road, Crediton.

The business owner, Graham Atkinson, is an avid football fan and when asked by Sophie if his car and vehicle valet business would sponsor her, he said yes!

Sophie, who is in her third season playing for the team, said she was "very grateful" for the sponsorship and hoped Graham would soon be able to attend a match to watch her and the team play.

The team play in the South West League and were recently knocked out of the FA Cup after a tough game against an organised Lewes Ladies side.

The team has some tough games ahead.

However, Sophie, who started her football career as a striker but was moved on to the wing in her second season, is a very good technical player, which should hold the team in good stead.

Sophie said she hoped to do Graham proud by scoring a goal for him, which then would mean G's Valets would get a name check as her sponsor! AQ
