THE Seniors at Downes Crediton Golf Club competed for the Hip Hooray Trophy, an individual stableford, on Monday, October 19.

The overall winner and winner of Division Two was Robert Rippon who scored an impressive 41 points.

This gave him a three point cushion in Division Two to second placed Richard Burston whose 38 points beat Tom Petiffer (third) and John Cann (fourth) with a better back nine.

Victory in Division One went to Brian Williams scoring 39 points, 2 Peter Russell 38 points, 3 Colin Parr 36 points.

The Ladies competed in the Daily Mail Foursomes on Thursday, October 22 and were playing for the right to represent Downes Crediton in next year’s competition.

Two pairs scored 30 points but courtesy of a better back nine victory went to June Skuse and Ros McIntyre.

Losing out on the back nine and finishing second were Betty Willey and Stephanie Moffat with Rickie Pawsey and Sophie Button third (28 points).

Saturday, October 24 saw the finale of the men’s golf season with all the winners throughout the year competing for the much-coveted Champions Trophy.

On a tough day victory went to John Smale scoring a fine nett 67. This gave John a two stroke victory over second placed Darren Clifford whose nett 69 beat Simon Baker into third place courtesy of a better back nine.

Saturday evening saw the end-of-season Presentation Dinner and Dance where winners were awarded their trophies.

Fine seasons were had by Martin Garnsey whose highlights were victory in the Club Championship, Scratch Knockout and Pairs Knockout; Mike Delling winning the Handicap Championship and Order of Merit and Oliver Greenslade with victory in the Scratch Order of Merit and the Lee and Hudson Scratch foursomes.

The final presentation of the year was a new trophy for the Clubman of the Year. This was awarded to Mike Nott, who not only represents the golf club in the Palairet and Dartmoor League as Vice-Captain, but has given up many days of his weekends to use his expertise in helping the Greenstaff around the golf course, thank you Mike.
