CREDITON Rugby Club held its annual dinner and presentation evening on May 6 at the clubhouse at Blagdon.
The Colts management had some difficult choices to make in all of their selections for the cup recipients.
Their choice in the category for Most Improved Colt was Morgan Rundle, a player who played in 22 of the 25 games, scored three tries and improved his all-round game during the season.
Most Improved Player was Jake Clarke, who started the season alternating between playing in the backs and forwards, found his natural position as an open side flanker.
As the season progressed he developed into the role so much so that the general opinion of many supporters was that he turned in Man of the Match performances on a number of occasions.
The Top Try Scorer award was a close-run thing. Colt Callum Barrett scored 13 tries from 12 games, Jason Luff scored 15 from 22 games, but the winner with 16 tries from 25 games was Colts Captain Josh Goldman.
Josh was also awarded the trophy for Outstanding Colt.
The Helmore Kicking Trophy went to Colts fly-half Josh Davey who scored 144 points, just pipping Mark Lee by a mere four points.
Josh also won the Colts Commitment Cup.
Outstanding Player award went to Josh Lee, who has multi-tasked this season from second row to back row and scrum-half. Josh appeared in all 27 of the First Fifteen games this season and scored six tries - one or two of them crucial ones.
Thanks to coach Jeff Bowers, Crediton RFC had a good record of attendance at training this year.
Although not featuring in the First Fifteen this season, Richard Gray attended more training sessions than anyone else this season and won the Training Cup, having won it back in 2011.
PLAYERS’ PLAYER AWARDS
Colts Players’ Player was Josh Davey, who barely missed a game all season, is the highest points scorer and has a kicking ratio of almost 70 per cent.
For the Third Fifteen’s two players tied in second place in the voting and deserve mention, Nathan Jackson and Tom Luxmore. However, the winner, by just two votes was Sam Locke, a player who played in 19 of the 24 games for the Thirds, plus a few in the Seconds and scored four tries and seven conversions.
For the Second Fifteen there was a clear winner - Macauley Jones - who did not establish himself in the team until mid-October but since then held his place every week, completing 23 Seconds games and scoring four tries. Macauley has proved his ability at either prop or in the back row.
First Fifteen Players Player and winner of the Michael Roach Silver Trowel, was Jake Clarke, who received more votes than all the others combined.
Finally, Club Person of the Year was awarded to Paul Coupe. This cup is voted for by the CRFC Committee and a number of people were in contention but Paul received the most votes this year and is in fact the first person to win the Trophy three times, the first occasion being as far back as 1988.
The trophies were presented by Club chairman, Colin Mackenzie.
