DEVON RFU will be looking to get their first win of the 2019 Jason Leonard Under-20 County Championship on Sunday, February 24, when they host Gloucestershire at Crediton (2.30pm).

Devon narrowly lost 29-20 away at Cornwall in their opening group game.

That match in St Austell went right down to the wire with Cornwall scoring a converted try with the last play of the game to make sure of the win.

However, Devon head coach Lewis Paterson felt there were plenty of positives to build on from that performance and he hopes they can take those into this weekend’s match against Gloucestershire, who beat Hampshire 38-12 in their opening fixture.

“The Cornwall game just slipped away from us at the end,” said Paterson.

“But for our development moving forward there were a massive amount of positives.

“We have a really dangerous side and that was our first game.

“We knew we would be up against it going down into Cornwall and taking on a well-drilled Cornwall side. It was always going to be a difficult game but we have got so much from it. There were loads of positives.

“We are going to continue to grow and we know we have some real potential."

Paterson is hoping the team can show that potential against Gloucestershire in their first home match of the campaign.

After Gloucestershire, Devon will host Hampshire at Ivybridge RFC on March 17.
