CREDITON RFC WOMEN XV 68-10 AVONMOUTH
CREDITON opened with real intent, immediately testing a strong and well organised Avonmouth defence.
Several early attacks in the visitors’ 22 were repelled, but pressure eventually told.
A lineout close to the line set up a well executed move, allowing Holly Keast to slice through and score the opener. 5–0.
Winger Elise was next to strike, finishing powerfully out wide, with Rachel adding the conversion to extend the lead to 12–0.
A stoppage followed as Ellen suffered a worrying hand injury, bringing returning player Charley Baker into the action earlier than planned.
Crediton refocused quickly, and soon Rachel crossed for a try of her own, converting it to push the score to 19–0.
Avonmouth responded well, capitalising on a turnover and launching a direct, physical attack to score their first points. The conversion drifted wide. 19–5.
A scrappy restart saw the kick-off fall short of 10 metres, but Crediton recovered and rebuilt. Winger Lydia powered through for the next try, with Rachel again flawless from the tee. 26–5.
Crediton then turned the screw. Libby struck twice in quick succession, both converted by Rachel, stretching the lead to 40–5.
The momentum was dampened slightly by an injury to Holly Keast, prompting another reshuffle.
Avonmouth continued to fight hard. Their big ball carriers hammered the defensive line, and after sustained pressure they forced their way over. 40–10.
Crediton hit back immediately. From a clean lineout, Sarah cut through under the posts, Rachel converting with ease. 47–10.
The forwards provided a strong scrum platform throughout, and from another slick lineout move the ball found Charley, who stormed over for her first-ever women’s try. Rachel added the extras. 54–10.
Charley wasn’t finished. After a flowing passage of attack and excellent support play from the winger, she crossed again to make it 61–10.
The final score came from Holly Burrow, who capped off a superb solo run with a try under the posts. Rachel’s eighth successful conversion rounded off a dominant performance. 68–10.
Crediton delivered a composed and confident team performance, showing real resilience in defence against a physically imposing Avonmouth side and attacking with pace, precision and clinical edge despite injuries and positional reshuffles. Avonmouth deserve credit for their determination, continuing to battle hard after sustaining a couple of injuries that reduced them to 13 players for part of the second half.
